Comparison — volunteer scheduling

Priv Life for volunteer
squads, next to Volgistics.

Volgistics is built for one job and has done it for a long time: tracking volunteers and scheduling them. Priv Life covers that job as one of several on the same roster. Here is where that helps and where it does not.

Free to a hundred people, every feature. Past that it is $10 a month, $100 a year, or $250 once — one price, every app.

The short version

A scheduler, or
the whole week.

Volgistics prices by how many volunteers you track, in bands. Priv Life charges one figure however many people are on the roster, and that figure covers the scheduling along with the elections, the vehicle checks, the meetings and the dues.

If scheduling is genuinely all you need, a dedicated scheduler is a reasonable answer. Most volunteer squads we hear from are also running a roster in a spreadsheet, an election by paper, and a rig check on a clipboard.

What is actually different

Three differences, and one admission.

The schedule is not a separate world

The person you schedule is the same record that holds their certifications, their standing and their vote. A certification that expires can be the reason a shift shows as uncovered, because it is the same person either way.

The bill does not count volunteers

One figure, whatever the roster does. A squad that recruits twenty people in a good month pays the same as it did the month before.

No advertising business behind it

No ads, no profiling, no data sales. For an organization holding home addresses, medical certifications and duty histories, that is worth asking any vendor about.

Depth, in the one job

The admission: a tool that has done volunteer scheduling and nothing else for twenty years has handled cases Priv Life has not met yet. If your scheduling is unusual, say so before you move — the answer may be that it is not a fit.

Who each one fits

An honest sorting.

Volgistics suits you if volunteer scheduling is the whole problem, you need its depth in that one job, or you already run everything else somewhere you are happy with.

Priv Life suits you if the schedule is one of five things held together by a spreadsheet, you want the roster to be the same roster everywhere, or you want the price to stop moving.

Can we run just the scheduling and ignore the rest?

Yes. Each app is useful on its own, and nothing is staged behind a rollout. Start with Shifts and add the others if and when you want them.

What counts toward the hundred people?

Anybody on your roster, minus anybody you have erased. Leagues, committees, crews and shifts are not metered — people are.

Do volunteers need accounts?

Only when you want them to have one. Import the roster from a spreadsheet, invite at your own pace, and somebody who never signs in is still a record you can keep, edit and export.

What happens if we stop paying?

You go back to the free tier. Everything already entered stays readable and exportable; the only thing you cannot do is add past the line again.

One month, one squad

duty month.

Import the roster, build one month of coverage, and judge it on that.
